MINK |
|
Mink always live near water, preferring places with dense bank side vegetation. Fish is the main meal but nesting birds and rabbits are also taken along with voles and even rats. Mating takes place between late February and late March. Young are born in April or May and they stay with their mother until late summer. The young will travel up to 30 miles to find a new site to settle in to.
Fish are killed by a bite to the backbone behind the head. Mammals and birds are killed by a bite to the neck. Droppings will vary depending on what has been eaten. When firm they are dark and sausage shaped, twisted along its length and pointed at the ends. They often contain fur, feathers and fish scales. They are often thought to be difficult to catch but with the right knowledge, equipment and methods they can be caught . |
