The most common is the black garden ant. These have quite large colonies in close proximity to dwellings. They enter buildings usually to forage for food. Many thousands of ants may live in a nest which grows bigger as the summer progresses.
Late in summer winged females and adult males leave the nest and mate. The males die whilst the females find a new nest site.
Red Ants sre often found in gardens and lawns.
Some ants seem to have no interest in liquid or gel bait put down for them, leaving insecticides as the main method of control. Insecticidal dust is the best method of control. |
